The Avem Project

The Avem Project right now is a series of ideas that I test on a smol scale. I have no illusions about the size of this project and the makeability. Right now this is more a fun hobby. Ofcause I would love to see this thing getiting somewhere but right now I only have limited capacities to realize a project like a FUCKING spaceship and prettymuch learn along the way. The goal is to have a smol spaceship that is reusable and basicaly on the same level as flying a plane. It should be able to Transport two people from earth's surface up into low-earth-orbit (leo) and land. All of that should cost abbut the same as a planeride. From leo the ship should be able to dock on to stations to refill and/or fly further. It should be able to take of and land horizontaly like a plane to reduce g-forces wich would make the usage of such ship only eccessible to trained astronauts and would probably have a long cooldown inbetween flights. Form and functionality are based on and inspired by old NASA and Boeing projects like the Martin Marrieta x24b. Those projects were usualy discontinued because of budget reasons and practicality but there is still quite some gold in there to be mined!!

avem-202-prototype-mk1

The first experiment is called the avem-202-prototype-mk1. "Avem" is the general name of the spaceship class. (avis avis, f (third declination with gen.pl. on -ium) avem: acc. sg. Bird Landmark, omen, foreshadowing ( = omen) ) The 202 is just my personal ID, I was born february 20., so in non-american format on 20.2. The mk1 will be the first smol-scale prototype to test the flyability and aerodynamics. It will be a model of the Avem at Scale 1:20. It's porpouse is to figure out the overall design of the Spacecraft, not to test pphysical capabilities on it. The Ribs will most likely be made out of Wood as it is the cheap and probably the easiest material to work with. As for the design, it should be a quite round, cars like shape. It should feel like a futuristic version of an old, fast cabrio-oldtimer, similar to the Porsche 911 and similar cars. At this Point it is pretty clear that the main Capsule will be a simple tube, since it is the most reliable and the most durable form. What I want to test at this point is the optimal wing configuration. We want to have a liftingbody spacecraft, meaning that it should have only smol wings but still can support itself in the air. That means, it is manouverable, glides in the air during landing and still produces lift while gliding. The reason for the Avem to be a Liftingbody is practical: you can't have giant wings on a spacecraft. It needs to be transported often and wings are huge and break. The Spacecraft shall be made out of two main parts: The inner tube, and teh smol wing-pair around the tube. As for the inner tube, i am litteraly using a plastic Waterbottle since it can be set under pressure and filled up with water, creating an easy Rocketengine for testing. The entire scale of that prototype will be fittet to that of the bottle. There are 4 wing configurations, that I want to test out in that first itteration. The best will be tested further.
